Driving Sustainable Progress

At NHIT, sustainability is at the core of our vision for growth and excellence. We are dedicated to ethical practices and continuous improvement, integrating sustainability into every facet of our operations. By prioritizing quality, safety, and governance, we aim to create a positive impact on people, the planet, and profits. Together, we rise towards a future that embodies responsibility and progress.

ESG

We assess the impact of our operations on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects at every stage of a project (pre-acquisition to post-acquisition). This process involves comprehensive impact mapping based on both National and International Standards, resulting in a robust Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) and an effective Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS). Our ESMS ensures compliance with legal requirements, promotes resource efficiency, prioritizes workplace safety, manages community impacts, and minimizes negative environmental and social consequences.

Environment

Monitor, Measure & Reduce – GHG Emissions

A significant portion of our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions arises from fuel consumption and electricity consumption for Operation and Maintenance of our assets.

Highlights: #

  • 28% of Scope 1 emissions: Diesel and petrol used for DG sets and administrative vehicles, contributing to 755 tons of CO₂
  • 72% of Scope 2 emissions: Electricity consumption for toll plaza operations and highway lighting, contributing to 1968 tons of CO₂

#The figures mentioned under highlights, pertain to the period from April’24 – Dec’24

Energy Efficiency Measure

Highway lighting constitutes a significant share of electrical energy consumption at our assets, contributing to Scope 2 GHG emissions.

To enhance energy efficiency, we have replaced energy-intensive High-Pressure Sodium Vapor (HPSV) luminaires with energy-efficient LED luminaires across 635 kilometers of project highways.

Green Energy

We are committed to transitioning to renewable energy by installing solar power plants at toll plazas with net metering to optimize energy use. Additionally, we are exploring opportunities to expand our renewable energy capacity.

Highlights: #

  • Total energy consumed: 2913 MWh
  • Captive renewable energy consumed: 37 MWh, reducing 29 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions.

#The figures mentioned under highlights, pertain to the period from April’24 – Dec’24

Resource Conservation

Water Conservation: We prioritize responsible water management by implementing conservation measures such as rainwater harvesting and drip irrigation.

Highlights: #

  • Water consumed: 026 million cubic meters
  • Rainwater harvesting chambers constructed: 379

#The figures mentioned under highlights, pertain to the period from April’24 – Dec’24

Biodiversity Conservation & Habitat Restoration

A total of 83,617# saplings (16,211 under Avenue Plantation and 67,406 under Median Plantation) plated across our assets, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

# Sapling counts are cumulative figures from inception till December’2024

Circularity Measures

A significant saving of 594 metric tons# of bitumen has been achieved by utilizing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) works, resulting in the avoidance of 290 tons# of CO₂ equivalent emissions.

#For a period from April’24 – Dec’24

Social

Occupational Health & Safety

We continuously evaluate and enhance measures to ensure the well-being of our workforce and stakeholders. The key focus areas of our operations include Work on Live roads, Toll Operations, and Incident Management & Route Patrolling.
